Griffith High Hosts Plain English Speaking Comp
On Tuesday we hosted students from Wade High School and Marian Catholic College for the Plain English Speaking Award.
The competition, run by the NSW Arts Unit, aims to encourage the use of clear and effective spoken English. It has been an opportunity for NSW students aged 15 and over to improve their confidence and develop their speech writing and public speaking skills since 1978.
Griffith student Alicia Newman spoke about the importance of STEM opportunities in school. Fellow student Kaedence Pattison explored the different opportunities available to students in regional areas compared to their urban counterparts.
It was Wade High student Allanna King who took out the competition with her speech “On Life”. The adjudicator determined, however, that her sister Emma King and Alicia Newman should also progress to the next round.
Well done to Libby Ridgway for organising this fantastic opportunity for students from across Griffith. Alicia, Allanna and Emma will now compete online in the regional finals on 2 June.
