Open Girls Touch Qualify for Riverina Finals

On Thursday we sent our open boys and open girls touch teams to Wagga to compete against schools from across the Riverina.

Our boys started off with a run of wins against Yanco Agricultural High School and Murray High School before meeting their match against Kooringal and Wagga High School. They rounded off the day with a win against Narrandera.

Cody Wright was voted the player’s player by his teammates. He showed and outstanding sense of the game and masterminded Griffith’s offensive plays. Braxton Cook earned the coach’s award with his speed and footwork. Cook’s agility made him difficult for the opposition to get a read on.

TJ Caqasau also gets an honourable mention for his work in the middle. Despite his youth, he competed confidently against considerably older players.

“The boys showed teamwork, resilience and sportsmanship and represented the school with pride,” beams coach Maddison Casey, “Although the competition was fierce, the boys supported each other throughout the day.”

Meanwhile, the girls blitzed through all their matches and will now return to Wagga on the last day of term for the finals.

Sophie Webb was a stellar all-rounder. She ran hard throughout the day and was a great role model for the junior players on the team. Jasmine Lymer also impressed her team mates with her confidence in the middle.

“There was good team cohesion. Everyone got along and played well,” recounts coach Brad Clark, “It was a good fun day.”
